Bols Around the World

And then there was this prestigious Bols assignment to develop an apron for the finalists in the Bols Around the World competition.

As a concept I decided it had to be a coherent ensemble with a personal touch for each of the finalists.

Because they came from all over the world I take a close look at their individual features, sizes and backgrounds. So I learn a lot about the tough girl from Mexico, the romantic girl from Poland, the fragile Indian girl and the rather big Japanese guy.

Especially for women it is really important that an apron should be fitting well and not just hangs around the waist as can be seen (too) often.

So I developed for the women in this final aprons with a special 'bosom coupe' , a hip support and a waist accent. Problem solved!

So each apron has an own 'gender driven' cut.

Colours of the Bols Genever and the lettering are black and white and of course Bols would be happy if this could be translated to the colors of the aprons. We soon concluded that contrasting black and white on leather would be too much, so we choose a more anthracite approach. This creates a much more dynamic apron. Thanks to the adjusted embroidery in light grey the look & feel was totally Bols in spite of - or thanks to - the indifferences in color.

Names of the finalists embroideried on their own apron gives the final personal touch.

To give the logo an 'over the top' size was a deliberate decision. It generates extra exposure for the brand and looks naturally placed on the apron on the same time.
